In conversation with: IN BED

It’s no secret we’re obsessed with all of IN BED’s classic, timeless and thoughtfully made products, even well before they became a client of ours. But what we love even more is their ethos and mission to inspire their community through meaningful design and sharing stories that encourage positive change.

IN BED is a local, Australian business run by power couple Pip Vassett and Eddie Arnott. We sat down with Pip to chat about starting the brand, their motives and inspirations, as well as tips for anyone looking to start a business that puts people and the planet at the forefront.

Read on for an inspiring and honest conversation with Pip, from IN BED.

How did you start IN BED? What inspired you?

Prior to IN BED I worked as a fashion stylist for around 8 years. I had a great appreciation for brands with a strong DNA and ethos and felt there wasn’t really anything [in the homewares space] that spoke to me in the way fashion brands I loved (like Acne, A.P.C or Bassike) did.

There was either very high end with an older and more traditional customer in mind, or there was mass produced and overly trend driven. I wanted a brand that represented my tastes - classic, utilitarian, simple & beautiful. A brand & product offering that wasn’t driven by trends but rather timeless, innate style.

Do you have any advice you’d like to share for those wanting to start a similar business?

I always tell anyone with a business idea to go for it. It was one of the best decisions I ever made and I love coming to work every day. Aside from this, make sure you have a unique point of view and something new to add to the market.

Lastly, it’s more important than ever to have people and the planet at the front of your mind when running a business, and starting from scratch is the best time to ensure you are creating the most sustainable and ethical business you can. It’s much harder to retrofit this - so do lots of research and ask your suppliers lots of questions to set yourself and your business up on the right path.

What made you first seek help from 30 Acres?

We were on a horribly sloooow website and desperately needed to migrate to something that worked and wouldn’t crash when we had a little more people online than expected. We also needed help with our UX and digital marketing, both of which 30 Acres have helped us with in abundance.

Any hints of what's to come?

We’re opening our first store in Melbourne in December which is super exciting! And always have lots of new products on the boil. We’re also launching in the UK market with Mr Porter, a retailer & business we have long admired.

We can’t wait to see what unfolds for this inspiring brand of motivated humans! If you’re in need of some e-commerce expertise yourself, we’d love to hear from you!
